I took the reference photo for this painting from a terrace overlooking a street in Vail, Colorado. It was late afternoon on the eve of a festival, hence the not-quite-ready tents. Of the many interesting design elements here, I especially enjoyed painting the foremost umbrella with that flash of orange sunlight!
