Lamplight

16x20" Oil on Stretched Linen

Getting a lot of mileage out of that lacy skirt posing as a curtain.  The play of light on the layers of fabric is so delicious!  You artists understand that.

Grape Loft

7x5" Oil on Stretched Canvas

The grapes on my stand were artificial black ones that I had on a shelf.  There was no translucency in them, so I relied on my memory of painting red grapes.

Inkwell

11x11" Oil on Stretched Linen

I thought about calling this "Invisible Ink", considering that the inkwell is empty and there is no writing on the stationery.  Didn't want to interfere with the play of the light in the glass.

Fruit Basket

It seems that posting this photo on Facebook provoked a midnight snack in Tulsa, OK last night!  At least I don't paint jelly doughnuts!

Platter of Fruit

11"x14" Oil on stretched canvas.  $250

This is another signature platter created by my sister, Lorie.  I love to have fresh fruit placed on my kitchen counter, and in my studio on my model stand!

Red Roses & Grapes

8"x10" Oil on stretched canvas.  SOLD

I happened upon a YouTube video of an artist by the name of Thomas Baker, who demonstrated the use of glazes to deepen shadows.  This is a method that is done after the paint has dried, at least somewhat.  It came in handy, as I started this painting a week ago, and I just got back to it today.  Tom has other YouTube videos, and he is about to release his second instructional DVD.

The pot in this painting is another of my sister Sheila's creations.

Lorie's Lisianthus

Not For Sale
8"x8" Oil on canvas board.

Lisianthus blooms are very similar to roses.  The bunch contained dozens of tiny graceful buds which continued to bloom, extending the life of the bouquet.  I took part of the bunch and placed them in one of my sister's pottery pieces.  The platter is one of Lorie's signature pieces, characterized by the crimped edge you see on the left.  Look for another such platter in my next post.

"Red Grapes on Pewter Tray"

Oil on stretched canvas. 8" x 10"

Red grapes are a staple in my house . . . an expensive one these days! The pewter tray was a gift from my students and my good friend, Jackie, who was also my excellent teacher's aide for five years.

I was told that several people have tried unsuccessfully to post comments. I have corrected the problem, so post away!
